Excitation of electron-hole pairs in the vicinity of the Dirac cone by the Coulomb interaction gives rise to an asymmetric Breit-Wigner-Fano line shape in the phonon Raman spectra in graphene. This asymmetric line shape appears due to the interference effect between the phonon spectra and the electron-hole pair excitation spectra. The calculated Breit-Wigner-Fano asymmetric factor 1/q BWF as a function of the Fermi energy shows a V-shaped curve with a minimum value at the charge neutrality point and gives good agreement with the experimental results.

Optical reflectivity and Raman scattering in few-layer-thick graphene highly doped by K and Rb.

We report the optical reflectivity and Raman scattering of few layer (L) graphene exposed to K and Rb vapors. Samples many tens of layers thick show the reflectivity and Raman spectra of the stage 1 bulk alkali intercalation compounds (GICs) KC(8) and RbC(8). However, these bulk optical and Raman properties only begin to appear in samples more than about 15 graphene layers thick. The 1 L to 4 L...

Origin of the Breit-Wigner-Fano lineshape of the tangential G-band feature of metallic carbon nanotubes

A detailed line-shape analysis of the tangential G-band feature attributable to metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes is presented. Only two components are needed to account for the entire G-band feature for metallic nanotubes. The higher-frequency component has a Lorentzian line shape, and the lower one has a BreitWigner-Fano ~BWF! line shape. Through comparisons of the Raman tangential G-ba...

Optical Properties of Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

Four kinds of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with different diameter distribution have been synthesized and optical absorption spectra have been measured. Three large absorption bands due to the optical transitions between spike-like density of states, characteristics of SWNTs, were observed from infrared to visible region. Comparing with the calculated energy band, it has been concluded ...

Fano profiles in two-photon photoassociation spectra.

In this article we derive the lineshapes observed in two-photon photoassociation spectrocopy of molecules using an effective Hamiltonian adapted from previous work in atomic physics. The lineshape is decomposed in terms of sums and products of Breit-Wigner and Fano profiles, which we associate with physical absorption and emission processes, and to quantum interferences between transition ampli...

Effects of surfactant and boron doping on the BWF feature in the Raman spectrum of single-wall carbon nanotube aqueous dispersions.

We examine the Breit-Wigner-Fano (BWF) line shape in the Raman spectra of carbon single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs) dispersed in aqueous suspensions. Bundling and electronic effects are studied by comparing undoped SWNTs (C-SWNTs) to boron-doped nanotubes (B-SWNTs) in a variety of different surfactant solutions. For SWNTs dispersed with nonionic surfactants that are less effective in debundling than...
